Colorful, Modern, Non-traditional | June 30th
Christina Sweet is a self-taught Artist. She was born and raised in Bakersfield California; home of the Bakersfield Sound, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, farmland and oil patches… She found she had a love for art at a very young age. Once her Mother knew she had some talent (after finding her daughter painting a mural on her bedroom wall) she encouraged Christina by having her paint murals in almost every room in the house.
Christina had a family and was married at a very young age so was not able to attend art school as she always wished to do. Instead she worked hard at her craft and learned the hard way. Her first mural was 23 characters on two walls in a baby nursery at the age of 15. She would do commissions for friends and family all the while working an insurance day job by the time she was 16.
Her roots in the insurance industry remain grounded; however her love for the arts has grown over the fence and down the street through the many artist relationships she formed by starting an art gallery and club with a group of friends. For three years she owned and operated, The Foundry art gallery in the heart of downtown, Bakersfield. Those were the best years of her life! Her dream was realized.
Bakersfield, rich in oil production suffered a downturn in 2014, which her husband, Ty, was employed by. Austin is where she had craved to be for 10 plus years. So, as she does with most things in her life, she took the bull by the horns and flew out to this beautiful city to test the soil… The trip was a great success and the day after Christmas-2015 she turned her rearview mirror down and they headed out south!
